The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of blackmail and sensationalism in its allegations against former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The party, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Olusegun Adewara, alleged that the total amount in the 12- count charge levelled against the former governor by the EFCC “is a little above N1.6billion which the then government legitimately paid to service provider as travel expenses.”

It added, “It is noteworthy that all the twelve counts allegations against Dr Ahmed bothered on alleged diversion to other legitimate government businesses and not a single of the expenditures was paid or diverted to personal account of the former governor or his associates”.

“This is why, among other reasons, our party has continued to express its concern over the suspicious conduct of the North Central command of the EFCC, which appears to have offered itself as a willing tool in the hands of the APC-led administration in Kwara state,” the opposition party stated.
The PDP also accused the EFCC of misleading the court to declare a former commissioner for finance, Demola Banu, wanted for” the same offence which the agency had willingly withdrew from the same court.”

The party insisted that Banu had not been reinvited after he had been discharged by the Federal High Court.
