A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Chidi Nwogu, has commended the provost of College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof Bond Anyaehie for working assiduously towards the accreditation of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Medical S,chool by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Nwogu said the achievement came to fruition through the unwavering belief in the capacity of Prof Anyaehie by the governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma, who insisted on inviting and incorporating him into the facilitation team as team head.

He further said the MDCN delegation led by its registrar, Dr Nwakanma and head of Medical Education Unit, was so impressed by the leadership role of the pioneer provost, Prof Anyaehie.

He also noted that the team was visibly thrilled and remarkably impressed with the facilities on ground at the FUTO Teaching hospital at FMC Owerri, as well as the giant strides of its chief medical director (MDCN), Dr Kingsley Achigbu.

In her remarks, the vice chancellor of FUTO, Prof Nnenna Oti, who was visibly elated, showered bountiful praises and appreciation to God Almighty for all the notable achievements recorded under her tenure as the vice chancellor of FUTO, of which this particular fit is one of those that stands out.

According to her, the journey to this successful accreditation has been quite challenging, but eventually capped with the value added to it by the final push of Prof Anyaehie, which finally saw the university through.

She stated that the major positive implication of this praiseworthy development is 100 per cent increase in the admission quota of the medical school from 50 to 100.

She said the accreditation project has been very long as they were made to diligently scale through the following stages; NUC Resources Verification; Presidential approval of the upgrade of FMC to a teaching hospital. Pre-accreditation visit by MDCN and Full accreditation visit by MDCN.

With this accreditation, FUTO College of Medicine will now be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, as the former FMC will now be legally addressed as a Teaching Hospital.
