A former executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Peter Okebukola has defended the Registrar,
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, over the alleged reckless spending and poor remittance to the federal government by the National Assembly.
Okebukola, chairman of JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), commended Oloyede as a beacon of accountability and transparency on the African continent.
He described the allegations surrounding JAMB’s 2024 budget as baseless, saying the accusations were rooted in misinformation and a lack of understanding of the board’s financial practices.
Okebukola, who has worked closely with Oloyede for seven years as JEOG Chairman, described the Registrar as a paragon of accountability in both public and private endeavours.
“As the Chairman of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group, a position I have held with pride and dedication for the past seven years, I felt compelled to respond to the allegations regarding JAMB’s 2024 budget under the stewardship of Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
“Fortunately, before I could address the media, the Board’s Public Affairs Officer, Dr Fabian Benjamin, issued a press release debunking the claims as ‘unfounded and based on misinformation.’ His clarification eased my concerns and reaffirmed my trust in the integrity of JAMB’s leadership.
“It has been a privilege to work closely with Professor Oloyede for seven remarkable years in my capacity as Chairman of JEOG. During this period, I have witnessed firsthand his steadfast commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in managing JAMB’s affairs.
“I have never encountered even the slightest suggestion of financial impropriety involving Professor Oloyede. His meticulous budgeting and financial management approach ensures that every Naira is accounted for, with expenditures carefully planned and executed.
“Under his leadership, JAMB has implemented transformative initiatives that have significantly enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations, positively impacting millions of students across Nigeria.”
“We as a nation must rally behind leaders who demonstrate unwavering dedication to the public good. Professor Is-haq Oloyede stands out as a beacon of professional excellence and integrity.
“I wholeheartedly affirm my support for Professor Oloyede and his relentless commitment to promoting transparency and accountability at JAMB. Under his transformative leadership, JAMB has evolved into a model institution, setting benchmarks for efficiency and ethical practices,” he added.
