A former member representing the Ikwuanno/ Umuahia federal constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Sam Onuigbo, has advocated studying climate change at all levels in the country.

Onuigbo stated this in a keynote address he delivered during the observation of the 2024 World Environmental Day organised by the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, at the institute.
He said the study will ensure every Nigerian child is familiar with issues related to climate change, the impacts of environmental challenges, and how to take proper action against them.

He further said the institute’s climate change agenda aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s resolve to curb deforestation, pollution, degradation and other environmental challenges facing the country.
Onuigbo, representing the South East zone in the North East Development Commission, commended the institute’s management for organising the occasion.

Earlier in a remark, the institute’s executive director, Prof Chiedozie Egesi, said the occasion was organised to raise the people’s consciousness on environmental challenges and ensure food is sufficient in the country.

He expressed delight that the occasion coincided with the commissioning of the institute’s carbon rejuvenating agro-forestry, which he said will serve as a demonstration farm.
Immediate past executive director of the institute, Dr Godwin Asumoha; Prof Chris Nwoke of Federal University of Technology, Owerri; and Prof Emma Ezegbulem of the Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike, also spoke at the occasion.
