Abuja Hosts 1st Dragon Shotokan National Karate Championship

Nigeria’s capital city Abuja is set to be the epicentre of martial arts as the 1st Dragon Shotokan Karate Club National Open Tournament holds from November 27 to 29, 2025, at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Sanctioned by the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) and in collaboration with the World Karate Federation (WKF), this KFN-ranked Factor 6 event promises an electrifying showcase of skill, discipline, and national pride.

Supported by an array of dedicated sponsors committed to promoting youth empowerment and sportsmanship, the tournament boasts prestigious partnerships. Cretetech Global Limited serves as the Platinum Sponsor, while Expo Solutions Ltd. takes on the Gold sponsorship. Additionally, Silver Sponsors include Ekoh C. Ekoh Enterprises Nigeria Ltd., Silveron Nigeria Ltd., and Necfine Trading and Farming Services Ltd., alongside Bronze Sponsors comprising Abumet Nigeria Ltd., Setraco Nigeria Ltd., Yuharu Nigeria Ltd., and Julius Berger Nigeria PLC.

Karate practitioners from across Nigeria are invited to compete, with no belt restrictions or limitations imposed. Fighters will contest in both Kata and Kumite categories, ensuring a vibrant display that accommodates various levels of expertise and fighting styles.

Rewarding performances will be duly recognised, with gold medal winners taking home ₦100,000, silver medalists receiving ₦60,000, and both 1st and 2nd bronze medal winners earning ₦30,000 each. Moreover, all participants will benefit from complimentary accommodation, allowing them to fully focus on competition and camaraderie.

Anticipation is high for thrilling bouts, precise kata demonstrations, and an atmosphere charged with passion and respect. In a statement prior to the event, Sensei Emmanuel Emenike, President of the Dragon Shotokan Karate Club, emphasised that this tournament transcends mere competition: “It’s a celebration of unity, discipline, and the spirit of the Dragon. We call on every warrior across the nation to rise, compete, and make history.”
