Former governor of Ogun State and senator-elect (Ogun East) Otumba Gbenga Daniel has assured Nigerians to expect a robust senate in the 10th Assembly.
According to Daniel, contrary to insinuations of some people, the senate is not a retirement place for former fovernors.
He said coming into the red chamber is an opportunity to add value and contribute to legislations that would help in true development of the country.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja yesterday, Daniel said Nigerians would benefit a lot on infrastructure based on his agenda and past experience in governance.
“We have to appreciate that we have elected to adopt a democratic process.
Democracy is indeed not a perfect process but this is an evolution,” he said while calling on Nigerians not to expect magic from the incoming lawmakers.
“Don’t expect magic. But consensus can be created to empower Nigerians including the unemployed youths.
“There are certain things we may not be satisfied with, but the selection of the leaders of the national assembly is for the best interest of the country,” he said.
According to him even when people think the 9th assembly did not do much, they passed several bills adding that two of the bills stood out.
“I am not a member of the 9th Senate but PIA came up from that Senate, Electoral Act that legitimized BVAS came from that same Senate.
“The senate should no be a leader of opposition. The National Assembly is not the leader of opposition to the government. Opposition should be for the opposition parties.
“We will try and see how we can convince our colleagues to bring out laws that will work for the benefits of the people,” he added.
