Nigerians have been advised on the economic management of boreholes, water and its resources to ensure safer livelihood.
A development and water resources expert, Engr. Michael Ale, who gave the advice, said such is necessary so that what is meant to be a source of joy will not turn into a poverty-induced venture.
Ale, the chief executive officer of a borehole management company, Retrofit, spoke at the celebration of the firm’s milestone of managing 100 boreholes since its inception in November 2025.
He added that the installation of a high-output, two-horsepower (2HP) solar-powered pump system, engineered for durability, efficiency and long-term operational reliability, and which guarantees a 100 per cent solar-powered borehole system, saving time, energy and money, was also successfully launched.
Deploying solar-powered borehole systems, according to him, promotes healthier living, and Retrofit has continued to transform conventional borehole systems into efficient, renewable-powered facilities across the country.
“It is an act of financial indiscipline that could lead to poverty and affect livelihood if anyone continues with the conventional method of energy provision for homes and communities.
Nigerians are urged to take advantage of the opportunity to transition their water and energy systems for housing to clean, renewable energy sources. This system saves our planet and makes us prosper by reducing the cost of managing our homes through the conventional energy source, with the use of petrol and diesel, which are dirty sources.”
Ale emphasised that more borehole facilities will be built this year, and the thousands of abandoned borehole projects will be upgraded and converted to clean energy sources.
He praised the initiative of many banks in subsidising the cost of solar for homes and advised that the same gesture should be extended to “Retrofitting of water borehole system for individual homes, as many cannot survive the current economic situation using the energy from the grid.’’
