Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers’ (NIEE) commemoration of World Standards Day 2024, themed Harnessing Standards for Sustainable Energy and Economic Growth in Nigeria, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), NASENI Khalil Suleiman Halilu emphasized that aligning with global best practices ensures that innovations in sustainable energy are accessible across the country’s diverse regions.

“Standards not only enhance our economy but also support the deployment of innovations, contributing to our development goals,” Halilu stated.

Halilu believes that by maintaining these standards, Nigeria can position itself for future progress, strengthening industries, creating jobs, and ensuring a prosperous future for all Nigerians.

The event, officially declared open by the NASENI Chairman, is expected to provide valuable insights and discussions on how standards can further propel the nation towards achieving its sustainable energy objectives.

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEE), Engr Felix Olu emphasized the importance of standards, codes, and guidelines in energy development.

He outlined four key stakeholders in the energy sector: producers and suppliers, policymakers, practitioners, and consumers, all of whom were represented at the event.

“I am pleased to announce that the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is here to represent the interests of consumers, while the Energy Commission of Nigeria is present to highlight the government’s role in policy-making. “Experts from Arseni, who develop tools and technologies for practitioners, are also here to ensure energy standards are globally recognized,” he said.

He encouraged active participation in the discussions, highlighting the value of contributions from all stakeholders to ensure a productive session.

“Today also marks the opening of the 2024 International Conference and Exhibition on Power and Telecommunications (ICEF 2024), the 20th edition. I congratulate you on your safe arrival and look forward to welcoming more of our colleagues as the event progresses. On behalf of the National Expo of Energy, thank you for being here, and I urge you to fully engage in the sessions.”
