The explosion affected nearby towns, including Udu, Warri, Osubi and Okuokoko, with many residents jolted awake by the blast.

The blast, which occurred shortly after 5:00 am originated from the facility’s oxygen gas plant, sending shockwaves through the surrounding area.

Eye witnesses confirmed the victims were evacuated but did not disclose their identities or the cause of the explosion.

Similarly, a fire incident the same day caused significant damage to at least 10 shops opposite the Federal Government College in Ogunu, Warri Delta State.

The fire started when a welder working in a nearby workshop accidentally ignited a blaze while using welding equipment.

The spark from his work spread to a large furniture store, though neither the welder nor his apprentice noticed the growing fire at first.

As the flames intensified, the welder and his apprentice attempted to extinguish the fire and called for assistance.

However, by the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had already consumed the furniture store and several surrounding shops.

Upon realising the extent of the damage, the welder, who had arrived at work together earlier that morning with the apprentice, reportedly fled the scene, leaving his apprentice behind.

As at the time of this report, investigations are ongoing to get more information.
