The Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation, Peter Eze, has strongly committed to fully enforcing the Federal Character principle.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inaugural meeting of the committee at the FCC headquarters in Abuja, Eze assured Nigerians that the committee will fulfil its constitutional duties with diligence and courage.
The committee is one of the 25 operational committees recently approved at the Commission’s weekly plenary session, chaired by the Executive Chairman, Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, as part of ongoing reforms to enhance the Commission’s effectiveness.
Eze told members of the committee, drawn from the six geopolitical zones, that the committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure strict compliance with the laws establishing the FCC, particularly within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under the Federal Ministries of Works, Transport, and Aviation.
He emphasised that the Federal Character principle remains a constitutional requirement intended to prevent any region or group from dominating public institutions.
Quoting Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described the Commission as the “conscience of the nation,” Eze said the committee fully understands the weight of that responsibility. He affirmed that the members are determined to meet the President’s expectations and align their oversight functions with the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting fairness, equity, and national cohesion.
“The laws establishing the Federal Character Commission are clear,” Eze noted. “Our duty is not merely ceremonial. We are here to ensure full implementation and compliance. Every Nigerian, irrespective of tribe, gender, or region, deserves equal opportunity in public service.”
He further stated that effective enforcement of the Commission’s Act and mandate would strengthen unity, deepen patriotism, and foster a stronger sense of belonging among citizens. According to him, when fairness and justice are visibly upheld in federal appointments and recruitments, national trust and loyalty naturally grow.
Reaffirming the Executive Chairman’s dedication to revitalising the Commission, Eze assured that the committee will discharge its responsibilities with transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to constitutional order, thereby strengthening the FCC’s role as a protector of equity and national stability.
