Legendary Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has expressed his surprise at Cesc Fabregas’s rapid success in management, stating he never anticipated such swift progress for the former midfielder.

Fabregas retired from professional football in July 2023 after a celebrated career that included Premier League, FA Cup, and La Liga titles, as well as the 2010 World Cup. Shortly thereafter, he began his coaching career with Como’s U-19 team, having already obtained his coaching badges.

Following the dismissal of Moreno Longo in November 2023, Fabregas was initially appointed as interim head coach of the first team. However, he quickly made a significant impact, eventually becoming Osian Roberts’ assistant before being appointed head coach permanently last August. Under his guidance, Como achieved promotion to Serie A for the first time in over two decades, finishing in 10th place – just two positions below AC Milan.

“The truth is, I didn’t expect such rapid success, but I do believe Fabregas will be a great coach in the future,” Wenger told Marca. “Sometimes, when you go so quickly from playing to coaching, it’s difficult to adapt, and he’s done it very quickly.”
