Cesc Fabregas has been officially named Serie A Coach of the Year for the 2025-26 season, receiving the honor at the Gran Gala del Calcio AIC after leading Como to a historic fourth-place finish and their first-ever Champions League qualification.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder, who retired from playing with Como in Serie B in summer 2023, initially served as interim boss to secure promotion before being appointed head coach permanently in summer 2024. In his first full season at the helm, Fabregas transformed the Lombardy club from lower-league hopefuls into a genuine force in Italian football.
The award follows Como’s sensational 2025-26 campaign, which saw them secure a top-four finish and shatter the traditional elite’s dominance. Building on a solid 10th-place debut in Serie A during 2024-25, Fabregas’ side exceeded all expectations with a run that disrupted the established order.
Como have carried that momentum into the current season, opening with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Udinese before claiming a statement 2-1 victory over Napoli.
Fabregas has built his project around young playmaker Nico Paz, who flourished under the Spaniard’s guidance with 13 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances across all competitions last season.
Como face a demanding eight-match league phase in Europe’s elite competition, hosting Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Leipzig, and AEK Athens at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, while traveling to Barcelona, Real Betis, Feyenoord, and Lens.
