The family of the late Chief Joshua Adedeji and Chief Rachael Ogunkeyede has rendered educational support to 30 orphans and indigent students across Nigeria educational support.

Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State, on the initiative, the family’s spokesperson, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, explained that the educational support scheme was established to immortalise their late parents.

She said the initiative is tagged “JolaDejiKeyede Sept30 Educational Support” and is held every September 30 to commemorate their parents’ wedding anniversary.

“My siblings and I instituted the initiative, and we have been celebrating the memory of our late parents with an education support scheme for 30 orphans and indigent students annually,” Mrs Oni said.

She said over 30 beneficiaries were selected from across the country, irrespective of their religion and background.

Oni, a former Head of Service (HoS) of Oyo State, said it was crucial to extend educational support to indigent Nigerian children.

She said it would reduce the number of out-of-school children, promote equity and secure the nation’s future.

“Such interventions also complement government efforts at providing inclusive and quality education for all, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” she said

Oni described her parents as silent philanthropists who instilled in the family the spirit of giving to the underprivileged.

“Our parents were people who were charitable, compassionate and committed to educational advancement in their community,” she said.

According to her, the gesture was a continuation of their parents’ philanthropic legacy, who were known for their benevolence and support for the unerprivileged while they were alive.

She said the programme will continue annually because it was instituted to sustain the values of generosity, compassion and selfless service.
