The family of the provost of College of Medicine, Gregory University, Uturu, Prof Uwadinachi Iweha has said his secret captivity one year after his abduction by unidentified persons has worsened their dilemma.
Iweha was abducted in front of his house in Umuajameze, Umuopara, Umuahia, the state capital at about 11.45pm on June 5, last year but is still being held captive by his abductors after they have received ransom for him.
His first son, Engr Chukwudi Iweha stated this when he addressed newsmen at their home yesterday, saying the family is still in shock and distress over the incident in the past one year.
“From then our father has not been heard from, neither has there been any communication with his abductors nor any information on his whereabouts from the security forces,” he lamented.
According to him, their father, who had been the chief medical director of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, and later Abia Specialist Hospital, Amachara was being repaid with wickedness.
He said even the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association had conducted several protests including a three-day strike “due to the lack of the government’s response to the situation.
He said women in the clan through protests, the traditional ruler, Eze Godfrey Ibekanma, relations and friends have done their best to assist the family to mount pressure on the security agencies to do the needful.
The spokesperson further noted that the security forces had been working with them with some results, but have not been able to produce those “behind the devilish act or return our father to us.
“There have been many rumours of his return from devious sources. However, I want to state that we are still looking for our father and pleading with whoever planned his abduction or his abductors to please release him to use.”
He argued that as a family, they cannot discern the motive behind the evil act or even point fingers at anybody, adding that they have their trust in God that he will return and be united with them in good health.
Iweha, who solicited the media to create more awareness on the fate of their father, appealed to Governor Alex Otti and lawmakers at various levels to assist them to appeal to the security agencies to solve the matter.
Flanked by his mother and brother, he said anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of the medical practitioner should contact the nearest police station or reach them on 08035514107 or 08036707100.
