President of the Students Union Government of Federal Collage of Education (FCE) Pankshin, Comrade Yanga Dabang, has commended the member representing Pankshin, Kanke Kanam Federal Constituency in Plateau State, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, for ensuring that the college was upgraded to a Federal University of Education.
Dabang, who also graduated from the institution, said in Jos yesterday that the lawmaker had set a good example by giving back to his alma mata.
Gagdi who spoke during the unveiling ceremony of the upgraded university, said he sponsored the bill that facilitated the transition of the college to a full-fledged university.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for making the university a reality while appreciating all those who supported him along the line, adding that the transition was a collective effort.
Gagdi urged relevant stakeholders in the state to join hands in nurturing the university to a level that would make it stand out as one of the best citadels of learning in the country.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the speaker of the House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, in his remarks, assured that the state government would give the institution maximum support to achieve its desired goals.
Team leader from the Federal Ministry of Education and a director of Colleges of Education, Dr Uche Cecilia Ubah, said the university needs a massive upgrade from what was on ground.
According to her, upgrading the university is not the work of the federal government alone but should be the responsibility of all stakeholders including the state government.
Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Funsho Olumoko, commended the lawmaker for his foresight in ensuring the conversion.
