Federal government through the head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has charged the pioneer chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission (FCT-CSC), Engineer Emeka Eze and members of the commission to uphold the tenets of meritocracy, integrity, and public trust in discharging their duties towards building the nation.
Yemi-Esan, who gave the charge in Abuja during a courtesy visit by members of the FCT-CSC, led by Engr Emeka Eze advised the head of service and his team to see their appointment as a call to service.
She said Nigerians are very eager and keen to see changes immediately, advising them to hit the ground running, because of the enormous work which lies ahead, adding that those in FCT are the bedrock of development.
“As pioneers of FCT Civil Service Commission, you need to think outside the box by looking at the deliverables as pioneers, because it is the foundation you lay today that others will follow, let us be courageous to do things differently and correctly, because we cannot get the Nigeria we need without proper structure.
“I will advise that you have to start your selection process for recruitment into the service on a digital platform, in performing your responsibilities, make sure the best brains are brought into the service, because the foundation matters a lot.
“It is important for us to do things differently, if we understand employment and know what to do, we’ll do things differently,” she said.
She also called on the commission to take a leaf from the Indian Civil Service and Singaporean Civil Service and replicate some of the transformative reforms that are driving impactful changes in their countries.
Earlier, the Chairman FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Eze said that the visit was part of his leadership’s continuing engagement with critical stakeholders whose input, guidance, collaboration, and advice are needed for a smooth take off and operations.
He applauded the HoSF for initiating a series of reforms that have shaped the face of the Federal Civil Service for optimal performance and excellent delivery across the board.
“We have therefore come to benefit from your fountain of wisdom, motherly guidance, and advice on how to establish the FCT-CSC as a model Civil Service Commission in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
“We are not oblivious of the great impacts such initiatives as the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025(Focusing), Standard Operating Procedures, and e-governance have made in service delivery.
“The Nigerian civil service has progressively gone digital with the deployment of e-governance architecture leading to seamless, paperless, effective, timesaving and highly productive communication in the service,” he stated.
