Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hinged the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s prospects in the 2027 elections on the impact of ongoing infrastructure projects across the territory.
Wike, who spoke yesterday after inspecting the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa Road projects, said the delivery of infrastructure in previously neglected satellite communities would give the residents concrete evidence with which to assess the performance of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
He maintained that good governance remained the key measure of a government’s performance, arguing that the Tinubu administration had moved beyond promises to addressing some of the longstanding infrastructure challenges confronting residents of the FCT.
“If good governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear.
“Now, the Tinubu administration has come and it’s not only listening to you, it’s not only caring for you, it’s solving your problems. Why will they want to change their mind?” Wike said.
The minister also linked the administration’s infrastructure record to the political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections, saying opposition parties would have to contend with projects that residents could see and assess for themselves.
“This is the campaign. The people who will come, what will they come with? They will tell them stories. But we have not come with stories, we have come with facts, verifiable facts,” he said.
Wike expressed confidence in Tinubu’s emergence in the 2027 presidential election, while also backing the political prospects of Senator Philip Aduda and House of Representatives candidate John Gabaya in the FCT.
“I can beat my chest, I can close my eyes and go home and sleep with my two eyes closed, that Tinubu will emerge. I have no fear at all,” he said.
On infrastructure development, Wike said the Renewed Hope Agenda had altered the previous concentration of projects within Abuja city centre by extending major road projects to satellite towns.
“The Renewed Hope administration has redefined infrastructure delivery as far as FCT is concerned, not just within the city, but also within the satellite towns,” he said.
He added that the administration had demonstrated that development could be spread beyond the city centre to communities that had long demanded improved infrastructure.
Giving updates on the projects inspected, Wike said the Apo-Karshi road, which had been delayed for years, was expected to be completed in November.
He also announced December as the target completion date for the dualisation of the Bwari-Kubwa road.
According to the minister, construction activities on the projects are expected to intensify from the first week of October as the seasonal heavy rains subside.
