Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his cautious approach to the controversial issue of open grazing in the capital city.

Wike acknowledged the complexities of governance in Nigeria during a media chat with selected journalists yesterday.

He emphasised the challenges that come with addressing this issue, explaining the need for careful consideration.

“The country we are in is not an easy one, and no rational person will be happy seeing cows on the roads.
“There are so many complications that you have to tread with caution and be very careful in understanding the complexities of our nation now that we have so many crises, so we don’t compound the issues.

“The truth is that nobody is happy about it; I don’t want to do something. Governance is not like running a private business. You have to tread cautiously, and we are doing everything we can,” he said.
He pointed out the specific challenges in managing grazing lands, revealing, “For example, before I came, there was a place where land was allocated for grazing reserves, about 1000 hectares.

“If I tell you the fight we are currently fighting. So many people have encroached, land grabbers have encroached,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Wike assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issues, “It is a problem that will be sorted out, though we have to tread cautiously.”
