The Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command, has dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, describing the viral claim as false and misleading.
The report, which circulated online, had claimed that a kidnapping was taking place at the school on Thursday, June 4, 2026, sparking panic among residents and parents.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers attached to Nyanya Division received a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. and immediately deployed operatives to the scene.
She said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilised surveillance teams to the school, which was promptly cordoned off and searched as part of emergency response procedures.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly started shouting ‘kidnappers’ and running out of the school premises, creating panic among teachers and members of the community,” she said.
According to her, officers conducted a thorough search of the school premises and surrounding areas, including nearby hills and adjoining communities, but no kidnapping incident was established.
“No suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified,” she added.
She explained that precautionary patrols were also extended to nearby schools to prevent any escalation of fear or misinformation.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic in the territory.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, also called on residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or official emergency lines for swift response.
