The executives, who were inaugurated yesterday, were elected by the association late last year.

In his inaugural speech, the new chairman, Chief Ifeanyi Okonkwo, said they plan to, among other places of buying and selling, promote peace and tranquility in markets and plazas.

Okonkwo added that the group would liaise with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) toward allocating land to the traders for an international market, plaza and NANT Cooperative Housing Estate.

The outgoing chairman, Prince Edozie Ugwu, charged his successor to not only improve upon what he started, but also prayed that God gives him all it takes to outperform him.

The association’s woman leader, Chief Rachael Adewumi, promised to ensure cordial relationship between the women, their male counterparts and those in authority.

While advising them to involve God in their businesses, Adewumi reiterated the need for the men and those in authority to always run government of inclusion so that women can contribute to the nation’s economy.

The national president of the association, Barr Ken Ukoha, hailed the outgoing executive for its outstanding performance and charged the new executives to build on the foundation laid by their predecessors.

The chairman of the occasion, Cyril Eromosele, hailed the association for its unity and appealed to the new executives to do better.

In his welcome address, the planning committee chairman, Dr Val Nwodo, who noted that traders contribute about 75 percent of the country’s economy, appealed for respect for the rights of traders to be respected.

The NANT at national level and Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) signed MoU on how to reduce multiple taxation in the country. The event witnessed the honouring some members and non-members with awards based on merit.
