The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), also known as Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a warning to the general public regarding the ongoing scarcity of vehicle number plates.

This situation has arisen due to irregular and insufficient supply from the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Plant, and the agency is actively working to remedy this issue.

In a statement signed by the management of the DRTS, the agency cautioned the motoring public about the activities of fraudsters impersonating DRTS officials who are attempting to exploit vehicle owners amid the current scarcity of number plates.

The statement emphasised that the DRTS firmly disassociates itself from these illegal activities and strongly advises against engaging with anyone claiming to possess number plates outside the official channels.

The DRTS underlined that the only legitimate method of acquiring vehicle number plates is through the DRTS self-service portal (https://selfservice.fctevreg.com).

They urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and only deal with verified platforms to avoid falling victim to scams.

Additionally, the DRTS has clarified that the approved costs for number plates and related services are readily accessible on their official communication platforms, particularly their website.

The agency encourages the public to adhere to these stipulated prices and reject offers that seem suspicious or below the official rate.

To combat these fraudulent activities, the DRTS has intensified efforts in collaboration with security agencies to bring these impostors to justice.

The DRTS management encourages the public to report suspicious individuals or illegal activities directly to them.

The DRTS remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering transparent, efficient, and accountable services to the motoring public, assuring vehicle owners that their concerns will be addressed as a priority.
