Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the newly appointed chairman of the FCT Youth Stakeholders Council, Comrade Abubakar Sediq, has called for unity, inclusion and sustained dialogue among youths, political leaders and government institutions to foster a peaceful and purposeful relationship in the Federal Capital Territory.
Sediq, who formally accepted his appointment as chairman, said the council would work to bridge the widening gap between young people and those in positions of political and governmental authority, stressing that youths must have a stronger voice in decisions affecting their future.
He said the council would provide a common platform for youth organisations across the six Area Councils to articulate their interests, engage government constructively and influence policies on employment, economic empowerment, community development and political participation.
The appointment was announced by the president of the fct stakeholders assembly and executive director of the abuja original inhabitants youth empowerment organisation (AOIYEO), Commandant Isaac David, alongside FCT youth leaders.
Accepting the appointment, Sediq said he was deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in him, but acknowledged that the responsibility required him to unite the diverse youth constituencies across the territory.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and I accept it with a strong sense of responsibility,” he said.
Sediq said the council would pursue an inclusive approach that brings together FCT Original Inhabitants and residents, while creating an avenue for constructive engagement between youths, political actors, government agencies and community stakeholders.
