The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the review and upgrade of the Kano–Kongolom Road project at a total cost of N334 billion, a development expected to significantly boost infrastructure and economic activities in Kano and neighbouring states.

The approval was confirmed in a statement issued by spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Reacting to the decision, Governor Yusuf hailed Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a landmark intervention in the state’s transport network.

According to the statement, the redesigned project will span 132 kilometres and will be constructed as a three-lane concrete carriageway fitted with solar-powered streetlights and modern Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance systems.

The governor described the FEC’s decision as a “historic breakthrough” that would reposition Kano as the commercial and logistics heartbeat of Northern Nigeria.

“This is what the result of our Kano First Agenda brings through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the governor said.

He noted that the Kano–Kongolom corridor connects Kano with Jigawa and Katsina states, making it one of the most strategic economic routes in the North-West and a key channel for trade, agriculture and industrial development.

“This project will open new economic frontiers for our farmers, traders, and transporters, while drastically reducing travel time and improving safety for road users,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.

He further commended the minister of works, David Umahi, for championing quality infrastructure delivery and ensuring the project received priority attention at the federal level.

Governor Yusuf assured that the Kano State Government would provide full cooperation and create an enabling environment for contractors to ensure smooth execution and timely completion.

He added that the project would generate employment opportunities, attract investment and strengthen Kano’s status as a regional commercial hub.
