The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to actively support the economic reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Idris made the appeal while receiving a delegation of ICAN, led by its President, Malam Haruna Yahaya, during a courtesy visit to his office on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the Minister, the Federal Government’s reform agenda was deeply rooted in responsible governance, fiscal discipline, economic transformation, digitisation of public processes, and transparent engagement with citizens.

“The promotion of accurate information, public orientation, and responsible governance is central to the inherent values of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Idris said.

“It is in this regard that we call on ICAN to support the ongoing reforms of this administration, and in light of the new tax policy that will commence from January 2026, we urge that you champion the cause in your financial and professional sphere.”

He emphasised that beyond implementing reforms, the government must ensure citizens understand them clearly, adding that collaboration with reputable professional bodies like ICAN is essential.

“We welcome your expertise as partners in public communication, public financial management, and civic orientation. Together, we will build transparency, restore public trust, and strengthen national institutions,” he added.

Idris offered ICAN access to Federal Government public information platforms — including state-owned broadcast outlets and national orientation channels — to promote financial literacy, ethical leadership, and public enlightenment on economic policies.

He also proposed partnerships on research-based policy communication, civil service capacity building, and simplifying complex economic issues for ordinary Nigerians.

The Minister commended ICAN for its longstanding reputation in upholding professionalism and ethical standards in both the public and private sectors, stressing that such integrity is vital to the success of national reforms.

Responding, ICAN President Malam Haruna Yahaya praised the Ministry’s efforts in promoting transparency and national cohesion, noting that trust between citizens and government remains central to driving economic progress.

He lauded the Ministry for revitalising government communication, strengthening digital public service reforms, and enhancing media and information literacy across institutions.

Yahaya assured that ICAN remains committed to disseminating simplified, citizen-focused information on economic reforms through its national platforms, including its “ICAN on the Air” programme. He said the Institute will continue promoting financial literacy and ethical governance nationwide.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building constructive partnerships with professional bodies, aimed at delivering reforms that are transparent, people-focused, and accountable.
