The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) on Friday blamed a technical glitch at Zenith Bank Plc for the failure to pay June 2025 salaries to some federal government employees whose accounts are domiciled with the bank.
In a statement issued by the Director of Information in the OAGF, Bawa Mokwa, the government acknowledged public complaints and confirmed that several personnel across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were yet to receive their salaries due to the incident.
“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the salary payments for employees across various MDAs were affected due to a technical network glitch during the processing of salaries at the bank,” the statement read.
The OAGF said it fully understands the anxiety and frustration this delay has caused, particularly given the crucial role timely salary payments play in the welfare and responsibilities of public servants.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience this unfortunate incident has caused and wish to assure all affected employees that immediate steps have been taken to resolve the issue,” the office stated.
According to Mokwa, the OAGF was collaborating with relevant service providers and stakeholders to ensure that all failed transactions are reprocessed as soon as possible.
“Concrete steps have already been taken to isolate the problem, and arrangements are underway to reprocess the failed payments in the shortest possible time,” he added, stressing that the welfare of federal employees remains a top priority.
While appealing for calm, the office reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in payroll operations, and assured workers of sustained engagement with stakeholders to prevent future occurrences.
“The OAGF remains fully committed to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in all payroll operations and is open to continuous engagement with stakeholders to ensure sustained improvements in our service delivery,” the statement concluded.
Affected employees were encouraged to remain patient as efforts to rectify the problem continue.
