The federal government has completed the palliative rehabilitation of a section of Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway (Idodo).
The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, visited the site on Thursday, February 1, 2024 after a two-day joint inspection visit to the 3rd Mainland Bridge, Carter Bridge and the Eko Bridge, all in Lagos, as well as the to assess progress of work at a section of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the axis of Ibadan, Oyo State.
A statement by the special adviser on media to the Minister, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, said Umahi immediately moved to inspect the rehabilitation work going on at the collapsed New Artisan Bridge near NNPC mega filling station on Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu State.
He ordered contractors handling the project to step up the pace of work to ensure that the project was delivered in record time.
He also visited the palliative work at Enugu-AbakalikiExpressway (Idodo), which has been fully repaired.
The Minister, thereafter, departed to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, from where he would be exercising his voting right during the Ebonyi South Senatorial bye-election holding on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
Recall that Engr Nweze David Umahi was elected as a Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District on the Februarym25, 2023.
He was later appointed Minister of Works by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He thereafter resigned as a Senator and Deputy Majority Leader of the 10th Senate upon his swearing-in as Minister of Works on the August 21, 2023, hence the scheduled Senatorial bye-election for Ebonyi South Senatorial District by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill the vacancy created by Umahi in the Senate.
