The Federal Government has announced plans to inaugurate six new cancer centres within the next two years.
This ambitious project is part of a broader initiative to enhance access to comprehensive oncology care across the nation’s various geo-political zones.
Speaking on Monday, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate made this known on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily where he detailed the timeline and objectives for the critical healthcare initiative.
“Within a span of 18 to 24 months, we anticipate the completion of these state-of-the-art facilities. This includes not just construction, but also the installation of cutting-edge equipment, the training of personnel, and the establishment of maintenance agreements to ensure long-term sustainability,” Pate explained.
The minister attributed the construction of these centres to a growing response to the need for accessible and advanced cancer treatment options in Nigeria.
He noted that with a budget allocation of N37.4 billion to the Federal Ministry of Health, government aims to deploy modern medical infrastructure designed to significantly improve the quality of cancer care available to patients.
Pate also highlighted the approach being taken to realize this vision, stating, “We are tackling each project one at a time to fulfill the mandate set forth by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”
