The Federal Government on Monday, celebrated the heroic return of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who were crowned champions of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat, Morocco.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government hailed the team’s victory as a momentous achievement that goes beyond football.

Idris described the triumph as a “profound testament to the resilience, excellence, and indomitable Nigerian spirit” exemplified by the Super Falcons.

“The Super Falcons have, with unmatched skill, discipline, and unity, inscribed Nigeria’s name in gold on the continental stage. They have made the entire nation proud,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government, Idris applauded the players, coaches, and technical crew for their unwavering commitment and courage throughout the tournament.

“You have inspired a new generation of Nigerians and demonstrated the power of sports as a unifying and uplifting force,” he added.

The minister also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s dedication to sports development and athlete support, pledging increased investment and improved platforms for Nigerian athletes to thrive on both continental and global stages.

As part of the measure to honor the Super Falcons’ achievement, the government has scheduled a ceremonial homecoming parade in Abuja.
