Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Alhaji Sani Usman, has reiterated the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, stating that it cannot afford to produce half-baked graduates after years of building a solid reputation.
Usman stated this on Saturday in Bauchi during the matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session.
He emphasised the institution’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, warning new students to steer clear of any form of misconduct.
“We cannot afford to produce half-baked graduates and dish them out to the society after suffering over the years to build a reputation for this polytechnic.
“For every form of misconduct committed in the examination hall, there is a commensurate penalty. I urge you to avoid actions or inactions that may be deemed misconduct,” he warned.
The rector disclosed that the Polytechnic is among the first tertiary institutions in the country to initiate the auditing of examination scripts to ensure fairness and accuracy.
He added that the institution recently installed Closed-circuit Television (CCTV) to address exam misconduct and improve security. “In line with global best practices, CCTV cameras have been installed in most examination halls to uphold academic integrity,” he said.
He charged the management to guide the students in acquiring the right knowledge, skills and values necessary for professional excellence and societal impact.
Usman further revealed that the institution received a total of 6,928 applications for the 2024/2025 session. Of these, 6,266 candidates were admitted while 5,068 successfully registered including 3,151 for National Diploma (ND) and 1,917 for Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
Also, the Polytechnic’s registrar, Alhaji Kasimu Salihu, congratulated the fresh students and reiterated the institution’s stance on discipline.
“We do not condone indecent dressing and any violation of this rule will attract penalties. It is essential that you adhere to our dress code to maintain a conducive learning environment,” he admonished.
