The management of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has ordered the immediate closure of the institution after suspected thieves stormed the male students’ hostel last night.
The thieves injured two students and took away valuables, including smartphones and laptops.
The attack triggered a protest at the institution’s main gate on Tuesday morning, as students expressed outrage and demanded urgent intervention.
Reacting, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Kasimu Salihu, noted that while the demonstration’s intent initially remained peaceful, suspected miscreants hijacked the process.
He said the Polytechnic’s principal officers and management addressed the aggrieved students, condemning the violence.
Salihu said the management ordered an immediate suspension of academic activities and gave students just two hours to vacate the campus.
He described the incident as “disturbing and unacceptable,” adding that the shutdown would remain in force until further notice.
Police said the situation has been controlled, warning students to be law-abiding.
