The director general of FEMA, Dr Abbas Idriss, while distributing the food items, said the gesture was to ensure that vulnerable people also participate in the Sallah celebrations.

Idriss who was represented by the director of relief and rehabilitation of the agency, Engr. Abdul Mohammed, appealed to Muslims to emulate NEAR Foundation by giving to the less privileged.

He said if Muslims can contribute to the foundation, the charity outreach would be enlarged and can reach more people in the FCT.

The project coordinator of NEAR Foundation, Abdulmalik  Bulakos, said the foundation had reached out to the less privileged in 28 states across the country through 140 points to give out  meat and other food items.

He added that since 2019, the foundation had been impacting positively on the lives of less privileged members of the society irrespective of religious affiliations.

He appealed to the general public to find it in their hearts to accommodate the less privileged to create a better Nigeria.

“A Nigeria where we show empathy, care, and compassion to each and everyone irrespective of religious affiliation or cultural background, ” he said.

Responding on behalf of the IDPs who have chosen to settle in Waru, Yimutu, and Malaysia Gardens, Halita Joseph and Samuwa Yohana appreciated the gifts and appealed to the government to empower them to become self-employed.
