Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has begun intervention works on major federal highways within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to enhance functionality of the roads and free flow of traffic.
The Maraba axis of the Abuja-Keffi Dual Carriageway (Abuja bound) around Km 7 is receiving the agency’s attention.
The road was hitherto characterised by deep isolated potholes, failure on the pavement and heavily silted up drainages causing gridlocks.
A bridge abutment washout at Gada Biyu along Zuba-Abaji Dual Carriageway is equally receiving the agency’s attention.
Engr Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, FERMA field engineer FCT, stated that the intervention works is in line with the nationwide intervention programme of the agency embarked upon by the agency’s leadership under Engr G C Amos, being coordinated by Engr Sani Abdul Kadir, the head of the direct labour operations unit.
Engr Maduagwu opined that the abutment which was completely washed out will be reinstated within a fortnight to ensure free flow of traffic on the highway.
Others are Zuba-Abaji-Lokoja and the Abuja- Keffi Dual Carriage ways that are major gateways into the FCT which connect the capital territory to other zones and parts of the nation.
“FERMA is restoring all federal roads by way of reconstructing all washouts along federal roads nationwide, “ he said.
