The State Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Mr Bassey Udeme Eshiet, has pleaded for the need for motorists to be safety cautious especially during this festive season.

He stated this when he received the new Head of Delta State Orientation Bureau and Executive Assistant on Communication to Delta Governor, Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, who paid him a courtesy visit weekend in Asaba.

He praised the foresight and visionary leadership of the state governor for the ongoing construction of three major flyovers, cloverleaf, and road expansion projects in Effurun and Warri metropolis, saying that the legacy projects will drastically reduce the regular traffic jam, thereby saving lives and ease of transportation of goods and services in the state.

Earlier, Barr Latimore Oghenekevwe appealed for partnership in view of the state governor’s call for reduced road accidents in the state, during the festive period and beyond.

He noted that speed violations, drunk-driving, driving without seatbelt fastened and making phone calls while driving are some of the frequent causes of road accidents which is why the state Bureau of Orientation is keen on partnering the state command of FRSC to curb the trend through regular sensitization and other awareness strategies.

While stressing the importance of partnering with the FRSC as the yuletide season approaches, and anticipated the surge in vehicular movements, he pointed out the issue of alcohol and substance abuse among drivers, recognizing the urgent need to prioritise saving lives, which is dear to the heart of the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Furthermore, the State Orientation Bureau helmsman emphasised the need to stop the selling of alcoholic drinks and distribution of drugs within public parks through regular sensitization of drivers and citizens about the dangers of substance use while driving, so as to mitigate road crashes during the forthcoming festive period and thereafter.
