The federal government has approved the electronic verification system for military pensioners.
The chairman, Military Pensions Board, AVM Paul Irumheson, disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists on the forthcoming electronic verification exercise.

He said the exercise aims to sanitise military pension and eliminate impersonation.

AVM Iruhmeson said the board adopted electronic verification to reduce the risk of traveling from one place to another and the cost of transportation as well as old age.

The board had on Feb 15 disclosed the intention to move from physical verification to electronic verification exercise for military retirees.

He gave reasons for adopting electronic verification, including the security risk of travelling from one place to the other, the old age of some pensioners, and the high cost of transportation, particularly for those staying abroad.

The chairman said a pilot test of the Electronic Verification Management System was conducted from February 19 to March 1, 2024.

He said the pilot test was very successful as out of the 2,000 pensioners that took part in the exercise only 15 failed.

He explained that the little observations noticed in the pilot phase had been used to improve the system.

He assured that the board would conduct sufficient public awareness to educate pensioners on how to carry out the verification.

“Therefore, as the chairman of MPB, I hereby declare the MPB Electronic Verification Exercise officially open on full scale for all our retired pensioners for a period of three months from 1 July to 30 September 2024.

Finally, the board wishes to advise all pensioners to take active part in this exercise. Those that fail to take part will not get their pensions going forward,” he said.
