He explained that, “ the launch of this innovative system follows its successful implementation in Canada, marking a major step forward in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality and accessibility of services for Nigerians both at home and abroad.

Tunji-Ojo described this launch as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s service delivery, aligning with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu’s government.

He said, “In a move to eliminate the traditional barriers associated with passport renewals, eligible Nigerians across Europe can now renew their passports entirely online, without the need for physical presence at consular offices.

The minister explained that the system enables Nigerians to complete the renewal process from the comfort of their homes or offices, significantly reducing travel time, long waiting hours, and unnecessary inconveniences.

“This initiative is not just about convenience; it is about bringing the services of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) directly to your digital doorstep.

“By embracing modern technology, we are enhancing the efficiency of our service delivery while maintaining the security and integrity of the process,” he said.

Tunji-Ojo who further stated that the launch of the contactless system in Europe highlights several key objectives of the Nigerian government listed them to include efficiency which allows the new system drastically cuts down the processing times for passport renewals, making it easier for Nigerians abroad to receive timely services.

He also stated that the new system will provide accessibility regardless of their applicants’ geographical location

Speaking on modernisation, he highlighted that the system is a clear demonstration of Nigeria’s commitment to digital transformation and its alignment with the global trend of adopting technology to meet contemporary demands.

Tunji-Ojo stressed that the Nigerian diaspora plays a crucial role in the country’s growth and development. “Our citizens abroad make significant contributions to our economy, and it is only right that they receive services reflecting the same professionalism and efficiency found at home,” he said.

He further stated, “Aligned with this administration’s goal of achieving a 1-trillion-dollar economy, this initiative supports broader efforts to digitise government operations and deliver transparent services to all Nigerians.”

The introduction of the contactless system is expected to strengthen the relationship between the Nigerian government and its citizens abroad, building trust and ensuring a smooth experience.

Looking forward, the government has committed to expanding this initiative and introducing additional reforms aimed at bringing government services closer to all Nigerians, regardless of where they live. The launch of the contactless passport renewal system marks the beginning of a larger vision to modernize and humanize government operations.

The minister also emphasised that the Contactless Passport Renewal System in Europe symbolizes the progress being made under President Tinubu’s leadership.

“This initiative envisions a future where every Nigerian, whether in Europe, Canada, or anywhere else in the world, can benefit from accessible, efficient, and modern government services,” he concluded.
