FG Inaugurates Galaxy Backbone Board, Akume Named Chairman

The federal government has inaugurated the new Board of Directors of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), which has the mandate of leading the nation’s digital transformation in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and services to Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in a rapidly evolving landscape.

While inaugurating the board, Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to elevating GBB into a more agile, responsive, and impactful organisation, a driving force for the national digital public infrastructure and service delivery agenda.

According to a statement by the director of information in the office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen, the Board has Akume as its chairman with the following members: Rabi’a Adamu Waziri from Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF); Abubakar Abdulqadir Maje from Joint Stock Association (JSA).

Others are Kemi Owonubi from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Mrs. Margareth Ene Ebute from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, Hon. Olulade Olusegun, Olumbe Akinkugbe, Sanni Ibrahim Mohammed, and Adama Pindar from Galaxy Backbone Limited.

In his acceptance speech, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Prof. Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, assured that the Board is poised to build sustainability in its operations, realign its institutional vision, and establish a solid foundation for attaining strategic goals.

He added that the Agency was able to develop its Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) within one year, which will run from 2025 to 2028.
