The federal government has commenced synchronous training sessions for successful applicants of the National Health Fellows Programme, a year-long initiative aimed at fostering innovation and leadership in the country’s health sector.

Addressing the selected fellows in Abuja, the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, described the programme as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s gift and opportunity and urged the youths to maximise it.

The programme, which selected candidates from all 774 local government areas, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s health sector reforms. Prof. Pate emphasised the government’s commitment to human capital development, urging the fellows to develop leadership traits such as honesty, courage, and resilience for the betterment of the country’s health system.

During an inspection of the training centres in Abuja, Prof. Pate reaffirmed the importance of the initiative in shaping future health sector leaders.

He also disclosed that 359,000 applicants were not selected but will be encouraged to participate in the Associate Health Fellows initiative.

The fellows were selected through a merit-based process coordinated by the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) Coordination Office in the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
