Federal Ministry of Works yesterday said Eko Bridge will be shut for eight weeks for essential asphalt resurfacing work on the bridge and ramps.

A statement by the federal controller of works, Lagos, by Engr (Mrs) Olukorede Kesha noted that the closure will be full at some sections of the bridge and partial at other sections with effect from Friday, September 20 to November 20, 2024.

According to the statement, this critical project aims to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience of motorists, adding that the work involves milling of the existing asphalt and relaying new asphalt on the bridge and ramps as well as address wear and tear and ensure a smoother, safer roadway.

The statement listed the detours and alternate routes to include, “Island from Funsho Williams Avenue; Service Lane at Alaka to connect Costain and Eko Bridge;

“Island: Access Costain to connect Eko Bridge and link Apongbon; Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge and link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.

“For Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue, pass through Apapa Road from Costain and link Oyingbo to access Adekunle then link the Third Mainland Bridge.

“For Surulere, use Costain to link Breweries inwards the Abebe Village to connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.”

She advised residents and businesses within the closure zone to plan accordingly.
