Federal government has trained 300 social media influencers in Sokoto State as part of efforts to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and project the achievements of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
At the one-day capacity-building programme, minister of state for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, said the initiative was borne out of a personal and political commitment to strengthen the image of the APC and drive public awareness about government programmes and policies.
“This programme is part of our unwavering commitment to promote the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and highlights the remarkable strides of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State,” the minister said.
Goronyo said social media influencers play a crucial role in shaping public discourse, stressing that their platforms can either uphold or undermine democratic values depending on how they are used.
“We see the need to bring them together and engage them meaningfully.
The goal is to encourage accurate reporting, avoid misinformation, and ensure fact-checking in their content,” he added.
The minister outlined key achievements of the Tinubu administration across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, security, healthcare, road development, and youth empowerment, calling on the participants to use their platforms to project these accomplishments.
Goronyo urged the trainees to take full advantage of the programme, sharpen their digital communication skills, and become credible voices for the Renewed Hope Agenda in their respective communities.
Deputy Governor Idris Gobir, who represented Governor Ahmad Aliyu at the event, lauded the initiative, describing it as a strategic move to deepen democratic engagement and improve governance transparency through citizen participation online.
Gobir reaffirmed the Sokoto State Government’s readiness to collaborate with social media influencers to promote the administration’s nine-point Smart Agenda and drive grassroots communication.
The programme was attended by digital content creators, bloggers, political communicators, and online mobilisers drawn from across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State. Participants received training on responsible content creation, combating misinformation, and using digital tools to support civic awareness.
