The Global President of Federal Government College Warri Old Student Association (FEGOCOWOSA), Dr. Godwin Alo, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) initiative.

Speaking at a public lecture in Abuja yesterday, Dr. Alo highlighted the importance of the STEM project, which is part of the school’s 60th-anniversary celebrations.

He noted that the initiative aims to establish a state-of-the-art technology centre, sports complex, and endowment fund for talented students.

Dr. Alo emphasized that the STEM initiative aligns with the school’s vision of providing quality education and preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century.

He also urged the government to prioritize security, citing its impact on the school’s unity and diversity.

“FEGOCOWOSA plans to collaborate with international bodies and NGOs to support the STEM initiative and ensure its sustainability. The organization has already launched a ₦3 billion legacy fund to support the project.” He said

Similarly, Emeritus Professor Olugbemiro Jegede, the keynote speaker, stressed the need for Nigeria to invest in teacher training and education, particularly in digital literacy, to prepare students for the future.

He noted that a global survey found that only 30 countries will have enough teachers for secondary education by 2030, and Nigeria is not among them.

Professor Jegede pointed to examples of countries like New Zealand, Finland, and Rwanda, which are making significant progress in education, and suggested that Nigeria can learn from these examples.

He called for a holistic approach to education, involving the right people, policies, and resources, to ensure that students are equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
