Fire Destroys 12 Shops In Oyo Cement Market

No fewer than 12 shops were destroyed by late night fire on Thursday at Agodi Gate in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka confirmed the incident on Friday where he disclosed that fire service personnel were able to contain the inferno that occurred at Block A No 64, Mayegun Cement Store Market, Araromi at Agodi Gate, Ibadan.

According to Akinyinka, the incident was reported to the agency’s control room through a distressed call at exactly 11:02pm on Thursdayn from the above address.

He said the fire personnel led by Cfs Jimoh promptly deployed to the scene of the fire incident.

“On arrival, we met some lockup shops well alight and we swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby shops.

“The fire affected twelve (12) shops out of multiple numbers of shops and we were able to save properties worth billions of naira in the market,” he said.

Akinyinka added that the fire was caused by electricity surge which later ignited nearly flammable materials.
