Fire Destroys Property Worth Millions Of Naira In Onitsha

Fire outbreak has consumed property worth millions of naira in Onitsha, Anambra State commercial hub.

The incident which occurred in the early hours of yesterday affected a two-storey residential building located at Akunnia Street, Woliwo area of the commercial town.

 

LEADERSHIP learnt that the fire incident which cause was yet to be established as at the time of filing this report started on the last floor of the building.

It was gathered that millions of naira worth of personal property of the occupants of the last floor of the building had been burnt before the fire was put off by the combined efforts of occupants of the neighbouring buildings and officials of the state fire service. It was, however, gathered that no life was lost in the incidence and that the fire was successfully controlled and it did not spread to any of the adjourning buildings.

 

The director of the state fire service, Engineer Martins Agbili who confirmed the incident however stated that the cause of the fire incident was yet to be established. He stated that a distress call was put across about the fire incident to the fire service at about 4.35 am, and, it promptly put off the fire before it could spread to other adjourning buildings.
