Fire Guts Bagudo Hospital Quarters, No Life Lost

A fire incident has damaged a building in the staff quarters of the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday. Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident.
A resident of Bagudo town, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as “an inferno that gut only one of the hospital houses belonging to a nursing officer.”

“The nursing officer was sleeping when he woke up to find his house ceiling falling down and minutes later, the house was ablaze with fire,” the source said.

“The nursing officer lost all his house property, but there was no loss of life,” the resident said.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident and assured the public of its full control of the situation.

In a press release, the command said a joint security team of police, military and vigilante personnel had cordoned off and secured the affected area.

“Specialist EOD-CBRN teams are on-site conducting a thorough assessment. We are grateful to confirm there are no casualties,” the statement read.

SP Bashir Usman, police public relations officer, Kebbi State Command, said, “We urge the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate vicinity to support the ongoing security and investigative operations.”

The secretary to the Kebbi State government (SSG) clarified that the incident was a fire outbreak and not a bomb blast, as widely reported on social media.

“The Kebbi State government is working closely with the police and other security agencies, which have since taken full control of the situation,” the SSG said.

The government assured the residents that there was no loss of life, and that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the fire outbreak.
