Fire Guts Legal Giant Yusuf Ali’s Chambers

The Ghalib Chambers of Prof Yusuf Ali (SAN), a renowned legal luminary, was gutted by fire yesterday.

LEADERSHIP learned that a power surge caused the fire outbreak, which occurred at about 9:22 a.m.

The Kwara State Fire Service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said the swift intervention of the firefighters saved the 79 office rooms in the Chamber, as only one room was destroyed by the fire.

Hassan said, “On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 09:22 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at Ghalib Chambers, Unity Road, Ilorin.

“Upon receiving the distress call, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene. Their swift intervention prevented further destruction, containing the fire to a single office on the second floor of the two-storey building, which houses about 80 offices.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which affected an air conditioner and some books.”
