Fire Guts Old NYSC Secretariat In Kwara

A fire outbreak at the old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday destroyed N7.3 million property.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the old NYSC secretariat’s building containing 15 shops was gutted by fire at about 10.49pm.

The spokesman of Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident, in a statement, on Thursday said the firemen were able to save property worth N64.2m from the raging fire.

Adekunle added that the fire consumed property estimated at N7.3 million.

Adekunle added:” On Wednesday 15th February, 2023, the Kwara State Fire Service saved a building of about 15 shops located at the old NYSC secretariat along Tanke road, Ilorin, capital of Kwara State.

“It was one Mr Muhammad Abdullahi who quickly summoned the Brigade to the scene of occurrence at about 10:49pm yesterday (Wednesday) night.

“However, firemen were able to eliminate the ravaging fire on time. And out of the 15  shops in the building only two shops were affected.

The cause of the fire was due to a power surge.”
