Shops and stalls fell prey to the destructive fire which started in the morning on Monday 27 November 2023, leaving traders and members of the community in shock and sorrow as the flames consumed numerous businesses and sources of livelihood.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the fire started around 5am and rapidly spreads through the market’s vibrant stalls and shops.

Sympathisers rushed to the scene to combat the inferno and prevent further spread, however, despite their efforts, the intensity of the blaze made its containment difficult.

Eyewitnesses said shop owners were helpless as they watched their investments succumb to the flames. The market, known for its diverse array of goods, from fresh produce to textiles and electronics, now stands in ruins.
