Fire Razes Residential Building In Kwara

A fire broke out in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday, destroying property worth millions of naira.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the fire, which occurred at about 4pm, gutted a residential building in the Asa Dam area of Ilorin and destroyed all the property in a three-bedroom flat.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hakeem Adekunle, who confirmed the incident,  attributed it to a power surge.

“The incident involved a building comprising a three-bedroom flat and a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment. The fire affected three bedrooms,” he said.

Hassan added:” On Thursday, 3 September 2026, at about 15:56hrs, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at adjacent Ile-Anu Wofem Church, behind the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Asa-Dam Area, Ilorin, Kwara State.

“The incident involved a building comprising three bedroom flats and a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment. The fire affected three bedrooms.

“Due to the late call to the Fire Service, the fire had already gained significant ground before the arrival of the firefighters. However, through their prompt and professional intervention, the firefighters successfully contained the inferno and saved the adjoining block of room-and-parlour self-contained apartments from being consumed by the fire.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was suspected to have been caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected section of the building.

The chief fire officer of the Kwara State Fire Service,  Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to ensure that their electrical installations are properly inspected and maintained by qualified personnel.

He urged members of the public to contact the Fire Service immediately upon noticing a fire, stressing that early notification gives firefighters a better opportunity to contain it before it escalates.
