Two fire outbreaks in Ilorin, Kwara State, have destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The first fire outbreak occurred at MFM, along University Road, Tanke area, Ilorin while the second incident happened at Ajegunle village, Kulende, Ilorin.
The incident at Tanke area involved a building comprising three shops.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the fire was caused by power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected shop.
At Ajegunle village, Kulende, the incident involved a building comprising four rooms.
Our correspondent gathered that the fire was caused by a cooking stove left unattended, which ignited a curtain and subsequently spread within the building.
The spokesperson of Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle confirmed the two fire outbreaks.
He said the firefighters promptly intervened and carried out containment operations to prevent further escalation in the areas where the incidents occurred.
“The director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to never leave cooking unattended, especially when using open flames or heat sources. He emphasised keeping flammable materials such as curtains, clothing, and plastics away from cooking areas, and encouraged households to adopt safe cooking practices to prevent avoidable fire incidents.
“The Kwara State Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State,” Adekunle said.
