The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has disclosed that it averted a major disaster through a swift intervention after a fire broke out at three semi-detached residential duplexes in Maitama, Abuja.
The service, in a post on its official Facebook page, stated that the fire, suspected to have been triggered by an electrical surge was reported at 1:54 p.m. Firefighters responded within six minutes, launching a coordinated operation that prevented the blaze from spreading to adjoining properties.
According to the post, a combined team of 20 personnel from the FFS Headquarters Special Unit and the Wuse Fire Station battled the inferno and successfully contained it by 4:20 p.m. While property estimated at N600 million was damaged, assets worth approximately N3.9 billion were saved.
No lives were lost, and all firefighters and appliances returned safely after the operation.
The Federal Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to ensure proper electrical installations and adhere strictly to fire safety measures. Fire emergencies, the Service emphasised, should be promptly reported through official emergency channels.
