Schneider Electric Nigeria has installed a solar power system at Ikeja Central Grammar School, Lagos, providing reliable electricity to over 500 students and teachers.

The project, commissioned in partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board and other stakeholders, according to the company, is part of its global Access to Energy initiative, which aims to expand electricity access to underserved communities, including schools and healthcare facilities.

The installation marks Schneider Electric’s first community impact project for 2026.

Speaking at the commissioning over the weekend, Country President, Schneider Electric, Anglophone Africa, Ajibola Akindele, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to improving learning environments through access to reliable energy.

He noted that many public primary and junior secondary schools in Nigeria still lack stable electricity, limiting access to digital learning tools and affecting teaching and learning conditions.

Akindele said the company plans to expand similar projects nationwide to support more schools and students.

The solar system installed at the school has a photovoltaic capacity of 3.3kWp, supported by a 4kW hybrid inverter and a 10kW battery storage system. It generates an average of 12 kilowatt-hours of energy per day and is monitored remotely via Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Energy Access platform.

Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Moyosore Adebanjo, welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to partner with the company to extend similar interventions to other schools in the state.

Head Teacher of Ikeja Central Grammar School, Sanni Kudirat, said the project has significantly improved teaching and learning conditions, noting that the school had experienced limited access to electricity for about two years before the installation.
